Grandfather Mountain Moderate Hike.
This is 6.5 mile out and back hike with some strenuous sections. There will be areas with cables, ladders, steps and some muddy terrain. The trail head for this hike is located off the Blue Ridge Parkway on the Eastern side of Grandfather Mountain. We will hike for a short time on the Tanawa trail and then head up the Daniel Boone trail to MacRae Peak. This trail has some great views all along the trail and the best view is from MacRae Peak, which is the highest peak on Grandfather Mountain at 5,840 feet.
Please plan on brining a shack or lunch or both and plenty of water. Also, a good pair of hiking boots is a must. On the way home we will stop in Boone for some of the best barbeque around.
